Eliza is an enthusiastic scientist, has dedicated over a decade to the study of tropical infectious diseases and host-microbe interactions, navigating prestigious laboratories in Brazil, the United Kingdom, and the United States, where she specialized in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Parasitology, Genetics, and Microbiota. Currently, her focus is investigating new commensal protists inhabiting the gut microbiota of mammals and genetics of parasites such as Trichomonas, Leishmania, and Cryptosporidium. Beyond her research, Eliza is actively involved in volunteering for science outreach and advocating for both science and women's inclusion in the field.
